Hello. I am Professor Peter Francis, deputy Vice Chancellor at Birmingham City University. I am sorry that I am unable to join you today on this momentous occasion, but I am pleased that I have had the opportunity to send you this message of congratulations. Graduation is a time of great joy and pride in your accomplishments. It is a time to celebrate with friends, family and with tutors who have guided you on your journey to this ceremony.

You should all be very proud of what you have achieved. What makes graduation so special is the unique story each and every graduate has to share. You will all have your own path that you have followed to this point and you will all have different paths to follow in the future. But you should share in your pride today as you become a graduate of Birmingham City University. I hope you all feel inspired as you hear each other's stories today and you join together to celebrate all of your many accomplishments.

Many of you will have been juggling your studies with other commitments, demonstrating your ambition and commitment to growing and developing to be the very best you can be. This dedication stands you in good stead for your future endeavours and I hope your studies lead you to fulfil all of your hopes and ambitions. Here at Birmingham City University, we are committed to transforming the lives of our students and in turn the lives of society through the work of our graduates. Java Institute Convocation 2023

On 24th March 2023, the Java Institute for Advanced Technology recently held its convocation ceremony, celebrating the accomplishments of over 400 software engineering graduates. The ceremony was held at the BMICH Main Hall in Colombo from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm and was attended by proud family members, esteemed faculty, and distinguished guests.

The Java Institute for Advanced Technology is a renowned institution known for providing top-quality education and training in the Software Engineering field. It is recognized for its innovative approach to teaching and research and is committed to providing students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in their chosen careers.

During the convocation ceremony, the graduates were praised for their hard work and dedication and urged to use their education to positively impact the world. Karate Club - Java Institute

Karate is a martial art that originated in Okinawa, Japan, and is now practiced all over the world. It involves a combination of strikes, kicks, and blocks, as well as throws and joint locks, with the ultimate goal of self-defense. Karate practitioners also focus on mental discipline, including aspects such as respect, focus, and perseverance. Karate is practiced both individually and in groups, and there are various styles and organizations that teach and compete in the sport. It is a popular sport for both recreation and competition, with many practitioners striving to achieve black belt status through rigorous training and testing. Karate is also an Olympic sport.

Mr. Neel Rajapaksha is an accomplished Head Master of the Java Institute Karate Club with a wealth of experience in the field. He holds a Diploma in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.

As the Branch Chief of the Hokushin Karate Association, Mr. Rajapaksha holds a 5th Dan Black Belt from the Japan Karate Federation, where he also serves as a Referee Control Member. He has participated in numerous karate championships, including the World Karate Championship in 1991, where he showcased his exceptional skills and techniques. Apart from his impressive achievements in karate, Mr. Rajapaksha is also a National Tour Guide Lecturer, where he shares his knowledge and passion for Sri Lanka's rich cultural heritage with visitors from around the world. With his extensive experience and expertise, Mr. Rajapaksha is a highly sought-after coach in the field of karate. He inspires and motivates his students to develop their skills and reach their full potential, making a lasting impact on their lives both on and off the mat.

In addition to regular training sessions, our organization also arranges diverse events and programs throughout the year. These events comprise workshops, seminars, and competitions, which provide opportunities for learners to acquire knowledge from experienced mentors and other practitioners, compete, and demonstrate their abilities. We also actively participate in community service events and charity fundraisers to contribute to society and propagate the positive influence of martial arts.

Sepak Takraw Club - Java Institute

Sepak Takraw, also known as kick volleyball, is a sport that originated in Southeast Asia and is now played worldwide. It is played with a rattan ball and is similar to volleyball, but players use their feet, knees, chest, and head to pass the ball over a net to the opposing team, with the objective of making it touch the ground on their opponent's side. Sepak Takraw can be played individually or in teams, and requires physical agility, coordination, and quick reflexes. It is often played recreationally as well as competitively, with various tournaments and events held globally. Sepak Takraw has gained popularity in recent years, especially in countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Mr. K.K.I Srimal, the head coach of the Java Institute Sepak takraw team, was a former coach for both the Army and National Sepak takraw teams in Sri Lanka. He also represented both teams as a player and served as the former captain. Mr. SriMal holds a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering and a Master's degree in Reading. He has completed various coaching and referee courses, including the India Coaches Course level 1.
At the international level, Mr. Srimal has achieved several accolades, including securing 2nd place in the 26th King's Cup World Championship in Thailand in 2011 and 3rd place in the 29th King's Cup World Championship in 2014. He has also participated in various South Asian Sepak Takraw championships, achieving double 3rd place in 2012 in Nepal and 3rd place in 2016 in Myanmar. In national competitions, Mr. Srimal has won several first and second places in Regu and Double categories between 2016 and 2021.

WING TSJUN Club - Java Institute

WING TSJUN is a martial art that originated in southern China and is now practiced worldwide. WING TSJUN is also known for its efficiency and simplicity, with practitioners focusing on practical self-defense techniques rather than flashy moves or forms. It requires physical fitness, mental discipline, and coordination, and can be practiced by people of all ages and abilities. WING TSJUN is often taught in schools or through individual instruction, and there are also various competitions and events held for practitioners to showcase their skills.

Mr. Premil Naveendra is the Head Master of the WING TSJUN Club at the Java Institute and a highly skilled martial arts instructor in Sri Lanka with over 20 years of experience. He completed a certificate course in physical fitness and nutrition and received training in the WING TSJUN International (Boehlig Defence System), where he currently serves as the National Director, teaching intermediate and advanced level classes in Wing Chun techniques.

Mr. Naveendra's professional experience also includes training as an Outdoor Unarmed Tactical Instructor at Police College Sri Lanka and becoming a certified Police Tactical Instructor under Grandmaster T.L. Boehlig from Germany. He teaches unarmed defense through hands-on training, demonstrations, and advanced techniques such as sparring, knee-lock, chokes, and throws, equipping his students with the art of self-defense.

In addition to his extensive experience, Mr. Naveendra has also served as a facilitator and consultant in several WING TSJUN classes in Sri Lanka and currently working as a Martial Arts Instructor at the Java Institute.

As an expert martial arts instructor, Premil Naveendra brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his classes, enabling students to develop their skills and confidence in self-defense.

Our society is open to all students interested in martial arts, regardless of their experience level. Whether a beginner or an experienced practitioner, our society offers a welcoming and inclusive environment where you can learn, practice, and grow.

Our instructors are passionate about martial arts and are dedicated to sharing their knowledge with students. They are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where students can learn and grow at their own pace.

Swimming is also a popular recreational activity and an essential life skill.

Wushu Club - Java Institute

Wushu can be practiced both as a competitive sport, with tournaments and events held around the world, as well as a recreational activity or performance art. Wushu has gained popularity both in China and internationally and has been recognized as an Olympic sport.

Mountaineering Club - Java Institute

Mountaineering is a challenging sport that involves climbing mountains and steep terrains using various techniques such as hiking, rock climbing, ice climbing, and alpine climbing. It can be done either alone or as part of a team. To succeed in mountaineering, one must possess physical strength, endurance, technical skills, and knowledge of safety procedures and equipment. Mountaineering can be high-risk, with hazards such as rockfall, avalanches, and extreme weather conditions. Hence, safety precautions must be taken to ensure the safety of the participants.
The Adventure Wolves Society at Java Institute is a mountaineering society that provides monthly mountain climbing expeditions for students. The society chooses routes that are both challenging and scenic, which include popular destinations like Horton Plains, Kirigalpotta, Thotupala Mountain, Adams Peak, Namunukula, Kinihirigala, Hulangala Mountain - Gampaha, Alagalla, Devil's Staircase, and others. The trips organized by the Adventure Wolves Society at Java Institute cater to both experienced and novice climbers.
The Adventure Wolves Society at Java Institute is a mountaineering society that provides students with a chance to explore the natural beauty, climb mountains, and gain valuable experiences that help them escape from their daily routines.

Motor Racing Club - Java Institute

The Motor Racing Club of Java Institute is a community of enthusiastic racing enthusiasts who share a passion for motorsports. The club provides a platform for students to develop their driving skills and compete in various racing events. With a focus on safety and skill development, the club organizes regular training sessions, track days, and competitive events. Members of the Motor Racing Club of Java Institute come from diverse backgrounds and have varying levels of experience, making it an inclusive and welcoming community for anyone with an interest in racing.
Karting events are included in the java institute club. In this, the path to becoming a professional racing driver from the beginner level is taught. Students who complete go-karting and gravel-karting levels are trained in stock car racing.
This club conducts karting training and karting championships. The winner will be given the scholarship to participate in the main events.
After karting, children who have experience can join the main events beyond that.
There is an internal professional racing team at the Java Institute, where there are venter drivers. Staff and students are involved in this
