The Java Institute Dancing Society is home to some of the most talented and skilled dancers in Sri Lanka. The society is led by two headmasters, Mr. Priyadesh Gamage and Mrs. K. S. Rangika Jayasinghe, who are both highly accomplished dancers with extensive experience in a variety of dance styles.
Mr. Priyadesh Gamage is a master of art graduate from the University of Kelaniya, Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he majored in dance. He also holds a bachelor of arts degree from the same university and a diploma in Kathakali Dancing from Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University in India. Mr. Gamage is a qualified choreographer and a member of the Judge Board of the All Ceylon Government Schools Dancing Competition.
He is an expert in various dance styles and techniques, including Western styles such as Contemporary, Latin, and Freestyle dance, Indian styles such as Kathakali, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Bollywood, and Indian folk dance, and Sri Lankan styles such as Kandyan, Low country, Sabaragamuwa, and Sri Lankan all folk-dance styles. Mr. Gamage has skills and competencies in dance concepts, choreography, designing and planning dance routines, knowledge of dance theory and history, evaluating student performance, understanding safe dance practices and injury prevention, physical fitness and strength, flexibility and coordination, musicality and rhythm, memorization and recall of choreography, performance skills, and stage presence.He has also showcased his talent on an international stage, including performances such as the Peacock Ballet (Mayura Sandeshaya) at the Key Theatre in the UK, the International Ramayan Ballet in Indonesia and India, the Shakunthala Ballet at the Goethe Institute in India, and The Vijayakala Kuveni Ballet in Ladakh, India.
Mrs. K. S. Rangika Jayasinghe is another talented headmaster of the Java Institute Dancing Society. She holds a Bachelor of Performing Arts (Special) Degree from the University of the Visual and Performing Arts in Sri Lanka and completed a one-year dancing diploma in Indonesia. She has also completed Visharadha Part II at Kathak Lucknow University in India and a yoga course in Bali, Indonesia. Mrs. Jayasinghe is a qualified professional dancer, director, and choreographer, and a teacher at several dance academies in Sri Lanka.She has performed internationally at various events and festivals, including the ICCR Program in India, the Kathakar Festival in Bangalore and Delhi, the Sibu Dance Festival in Malaysia, the Ramayanaya Dance Drama program in India, and Sri Lankan traditional dance performances in Trivendrapuram India.In conclusion, Mr. Priyadesh Gamage and Mrs. K.
